Jongno, Seoul

Michelle’s first experience outside of the U.S. was a five-week stay in Trinidad and Tobago in February of 2000, where she celebrated her 20th birthday by playing with the World Champion Desperados Steel Band at the National Steel Band Panorama Competition semi-finals. During her years as a band director in the Dallas area, Michelle was fortunate enough to spend her vacation time traveling to Salvador, Rio de Janiero, Sao Paolo, Paris, London, Glasgow, and Dublin, as well as many cities in the U.S., including New York City, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle, and Boston.

Upon making the decision to try living abroad, Michelle and her husband Josh left their lives in Dallas and moved to Salvador, Brazil, where they taught English at a private school called Wise Up. After spending a year sitting on the beach, they traded acarajé for kimbap and headed to Suwon, a satellite city of Seoul, South Korea.

Michelle is currently in Seattle, playing music and writing stories.
